DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

Department of Mathematics was established in 1975 and has always shared the vision of the institute in striving for excellence in teaching and research activities and got autonomous status in the year 1988. The department of Mathematics offering mathematics as one of the subject in the under graduate programs B.A (E.M.S), B.Sc (M.P.C), B.Sc (M.P.Cs) B.Sc (CA.M.S) B.Sc (M.E.Cs) B.Sc (M.S.Cs) B.Sc(M.S.Ds), B.Sc(CAME), B.Sc.(AI &ML), B.Sc.(CSCS) and BCA. The program B.Sc. Honours(Mathematics) was introduced from the academic year 2023-24.

The two year (four semesters) Post Graduate programme M.Sc. Mathematics introduced in the academic year 1990-91, aimed to train the students in all the basic fields of Mathematics and Computer Science. The courses have been designed in such a way that the student can opt for a career in software industry/teaching/research. The department has a computer laboratory and all necessary facilities needed for Mathematics.

The department also recognized as a research centre in 2005 to supervise M.Phil and Ph.D Programmes. So far, 6 Ph.D’s and 5 M.Phils were awarded under the guidance of faculty of the department. Some of the faculty of the department are members of BoS Mathematics, DRC(Departmental Research Committee), Applied Mathematics and Statistics departments of Krishna University. The department is securing excellent results in under graduate and post graduate programs since its inception. Further, in most of the convocations of Acharya Nagarjuna University, the first rank among all faculty of physical sciences has been bagged by the department. Aryabhatta Gold Medal is instituted in the department to the M.Sc Mathematics student who secures highest percentage of marks to encourage meritorious students. Since the inception of Prathibha Awards by Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, our students are continuously receiving these awards for excellence in PG(M.Sc. Mathematics) and UG Examinations. The Department organizes workshops, seminars and events in Mathematics for researchers, teachers and students by identifying Mathematicians of repute from abroad and premier institutions as resource persons. The department undertakes placement activity with various organizations to meet the expectations of stakeholders. Over the years, the department has evolved as one that provides excellent teaching and research in Mathematical Sciences.

Vision

To be among the best mathematics departments in the country and a reputation as a center of excellence in Mathematics, Research, Training and Education and to inculcate Mathematical thinking in order to meet the challenges and growth of science and technology, as well as the needs of industry and society, with moral and ethical responsibility.

Mission

To attract motivated and talented students by providing a learning environment where they can learn and develop the mathematical and computational skills capable of meeting the dynamic challenges of science and engineering.

To keep up with the rapid advancements of technology while improving academic standards through innovative teaching and learning processes.

To satisfy the country's human resource and scientific manpower requirements in mathematics through learner-centered education and research.
